How often?
Pump on a schedule, not in an emergency
The EPA's general guidance is to have a household septic tank pumped every three to five years. Your schedule depends on your tank size, how many people live there and how much water you use.
Selling in Teller County? A sale inspection by a Teller-licensed inspector is now required, and TCS is licensed there for them.
Cabins and short-term rentals can see very different use from one season to the next. Tell us how the property is used and we'll suggest a schedule. If your system has an operating permit or maintenance requirements, follow those.
Want it on autopilot? Ask about our 1-year and 2-year O&M contracts.

FAQ
Septic pumping questions
How often should a septic tank be pumped?
The EPA's general guidance is every three to five years for a typical household system. Tank size, how many people live there and how much water you use all change that. If your system has an operating permit or maintenance requirements, follow those. Tell us about your home and we'll suggest a schedule.
What are the signs my septic tank needs pumping?
Slow drains, gurgling pipes, sewage smells, backups, and puddles, damp spots or extra-green grass over the tank or drain field. If you can't remember the last pump-out, it's time to call.
What should I have ready when I call?
The property address, your tank size if you know it, where the lids are if you know, what's going on, and any deadline, such as a closing date.
Do you pump cesspools?
Yes. A cesspool is different from a septic system. Solids can build up and block the liquids from escaping, causing it to overflow and fail, so we pump it out before it gets to that point.
Can you add risers so the tank is easier to get to?
Yes. We install septic tank risers and baffles. A riser brings the access up to or near ground level, so future pump-outs are easier.
I'm selling a home on septic. What do I need?
Requirements depend on the county. Teller County now requires a septic inspection by an inspector licensed in Teller County when a property on septic is sold (effective July 24, 2026). TCS Septic is licensed in Teller County for these sale inspections. We also do real-estate septic inspections elsewhere. Call or text Tac and we'll talk through what your sale needs.
Do you pump grease traps too?
Yes. Grease trap pumping and interceptor service for restaurants and commercial kitchens is on our grease trap page.
